Printed Event Passport

Mount Royal, Student Service Expo: 2025

Skills: Branding, layout design, information hierarchy, concept development, instructional writing, print preparation

The Student Service Expo aims to engage new and returning students by encouraging them to interact with campus services and discover the resources that can best support their academic journey.

Backround

I had the opportunity to use clear, intentional visual communication to simplify a complex campus experience. Through designing the Student Services Expo Passport, I helped students more easily understand, navigate, and connect with key university resources.

The Opportunity

I focused on simplifying information, strengthening visual hierarchy, and creating a clear, inviting layout that guided students through the event with ease.

My Area of Focus

I worked with the Student Experience team to develop a prize-based engagement model that encouraged students to visit three booths and record what they learned at each. I also cataloged all prizes for the draw, helping shape both the strategy and execution behind the passport.

Concept Development

Handwritten notes on a white sheet of paper discussing a project plan: divided into two sections titled 'Desired User Action' and 'How To Win'. The 'Desired User Action' section lists steps including visiting multiple booths, engaging in conversation, learning about services, completing passport, and reading for incentives. It also specifies primary and secondary user tasks and the desired outcome. The 'How To Win' section offers guidelines for keeping instructions short, writing from the user perspective, enabling easy format adaptation, and limiting steps.
Hand-drawn sketch of a student services expo poster. The front side features a title 'Student Services Expo,' a section on how to win, and contact details including name, email, and student ID. The back side lists three service names with checkboxes and notes, along with instructions for staff to verify student engagement by stamping or stamping and communicating at the booth.

I designed the passport to be instantly understandable without verbal instructions, using clear hierarchy and intuitive prompts. I also followed MRU brand guidelines to keep the piece cohesive with the university’s visual identity.

Results

Crowd of students in a university lobby, some signing up at a table, a mascot in a hockey jersey, and signs indicating directions to different campus locations.

Event Day: September 18th, 2025

The passport increased booth participation, guided students through the event with minimal instructions, and helped students connect with services they may not have explored otherwise. More than 500 participants used the passport throughout the event.

Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator.

Contributions: Brand development, passport design, engagement strategy creation, booth-interaction requirements, and overall concept execution.
