Event Signage & Wayfinding

Skills: Branding, layout design, information hierarchy, Print production setup

Mount Royal University events often combine information, interaction, and community-building to help students feel supported and more connected to campus life.

Background

I was hired by Mount Royal University to design event signage and wayfinding materials that helped students navigate MRU events easily and confidently.

The Opportunity

I aimed to create on-brand visuals that improved flow, reduced confusion, and helped students quickly find key services and resources.

My Area of Focus

Whether promoting an event in person or online, it was important to me to maintain cohesive branding with clear, direct visuals. This ensured the messaging stayed consistent, easy to understand, and recognizable across every touchpoint.

  1. I reviewed the event goals, key info, and audience needs.

  2. I looked at the space layout, whether physical or digital, to discover how students encounter the piece.

  3. I planned the messaging hierarchy and designed on-brand signage that was easy to scan.

Concept Development

Hand-drawn sketch and notes for a student services expo, including signage details, a live wall banner, a booth image with staff interacting with students, and handwritten annotations about event needs and layout.

I designed posters for multiple events using a consistent visual style while adapting the layout, messaging, and imagery for each audience. Each design focused on clear hierarchy, quick readability, and strong brand alignment.

Design Development

Hand-drawn sketch of a sponsorship sign with the words 'THANK YOU SPONSORS' at the top, and below it, the name 'ROGERS' with a stamp or logo, and handwritten notes about the sign's design, including textured background chevrons and size '24" x 36"'.

Results

Sign for Student Services Expo at Mount Royal University featuring a graphic of an information desk with people and books, with blue and white balloons nearby.
Digital screen displaying a poster for a campus carnival at Mount Royal University, with photos of students in a mascot costume and outdoor activities.
A sidewalk sign thanking sponsors for an event, displaying logos of Rogers, Calgary Stampede, Domino's, Common Wealth, RBC, Hudson's, and Rumble. In the background, people walk and sit at blue outdoor tables on a grassy area with trees and modern buildings.

The final event signage improved wayfinding with clear, consistent visuals and helped create a smoother, more organized event experience.
